Viking and Fiery Maid

February 12th,

Dizzy foaled mid-morning, approx. 9:30 am. Chestnut colt; LF pastern, RF sock, LH stocking; blaze. Mild cardiac arrhythmia, self-stabilized. Probably a damn good thing he was born in a heated barn, though.

Little thing, for now. Very compact, but should grow to be a Benny the Bull type--may be a little shorter than the grand norm, but he'll have a motor.


Febrary 15th,

Veridical foaled early afternoon, approx. 2:15pm. Bay sabino filly; four high stockings (sabino markings); belly spots; blaze. No foaling complications.

Feisty bugger bit me on the knee!


Both of my Prince of Mirkwood foals wanted to be born, and then I saw the reference picture (linked below), and this happened. Way I see it, Elf starts the fights and Leif finishes them.

Leif was named as he is because the word "Mirkwood" comes from an Old Norse word for "dark forest." With the addition of "Prince" I went for famous Norse people. Who better than Leif Ericsson? Plus, you know, the added bonus of it sounding like "leaf." Silmarillion is more obviously named, for those who know any Tolkien at all.
